World of Warcraft: Professions

Welcome to the World of Warcraft professions section. In the World of Warcraft, there are many different professions to choose from, each with their own benefits. The one thing that they all share in common is the fact that they take a very good amount of time and effort to level, but the rewards are certainly worthwhile. Look at the majority of the better players on your server, and I can almost guarantee you they have at least two professions maxed out and are reaping the benefits from them in PvP and also raiding.

There are primary and secondary professions. You can only select two primary professions, so choose wisely, as they do take time to level. Then there are your secondary professions that everyone can level: Cooking, First Aid, and Fishing.

It is recommended that EVERYONE level their secondary professions due to the benefits, and cheap leveling.

  • Level Cooking: You can make some nice food that has great buffs to increase your attack power, boost your HP, or crank up your spell power to annihilate opposing foes.
  • Level First Aid : Allows you to create bandages, which will certainly come in handy for faster leveling, a quick fix in a PvP situation, or any time your character is in need of a little health.
  • Level Fishing : Similar to the benefits of cooking. Allows you to catch certain fish that provide buffs when cooked, and also has some other surprising "benefits".

So, which profession is right for you? Some classes benefit more from different professions, but overall, you’ll get some nice perks with each. For example, if you’re a rogue, you may want to level leather working so you can make yourself some nice gear. And you might as well level skinning too, that way you can provide your own leather for the gear, and also make some easy gold selling it through the auction house. In the links below we will discuss all of these professions, some of the benefits of each, and also recommend a guide that can help you level those professions.

  • Alchemy : Create potions, elixirs, transmute metals, and more.
  • Blacksmithing : Created mail and plate armor that you can wear and sell to other players.
  • Cooking : Food, food, and more food to benefit you and your friends.
  • Enchanting : Enhance the power of items that you and friends wear.
  • Engineering : Make some of the coolest toys in game with this profession.
  • First Aid : Got a boo boo? Throw a bandage on it and get back in the fight!
  • Fishing : Grab a beer (or root beer depending on age) and sit back and fish for a while. You never know what you might catch ; ).
  • Herbalism : Flower picking tree hugger, or insane money maker? We say let the auction house and insane amounts of gold answer that one.
  • Jewelcrafting : Level Jewelcrafting and you can make the best gems in the game.
  • Leatherworking : Create leather and some other armor for you and others.
  • Mining : Grab the ol’ pick axe and watch the gold start pouring in.
  • Tailoring : Create all kinds of cloth armor and back pieces that any class can benefit from.
  • Skinning : Don’t let that carcass of the beast you just battled go to waste! Skin that sucker and reap the benefits.
  • Inscription : New to the Wrath of the Lich King, inscription allows you to make items that all players need now.
